SUBJECT:      Replacement of Old Bike Racks at CCNY Campus,

Due to the sudden and ongoing pandemic, and the reliance on online classes many students were not able to explore the CCNY campus in person and could only observe the campus from the website. As one of the freshmen who could not personally experience the campus before this pandemic, taking information from the map I could only see 3 bike racks scattered on campus, since they are distanced far from each other it creates conflicts between some students that will eventually return to campus and use the bike racks.

Many problems arise due to this lack of bike racks, conflicts such as the location of the bike racks, limited space in each bike rack and the insufficient amount of bike racks all might cause students to be late to class and cause deductions in their grades. Misuse of the current bike racks is also a problem that needs to be addressed. I believe that the lack of many bike racks in and around the campus might cause new students like myself confusion as to where to park our bikes if the bike racks have already been taken by others.

Possible solutions to the addressed problem:

  • Weekly or daily maintenance checkups of the bike racks to ensure proper use of the racks, as well as making sure of the security of the bike racks to prevent any stolen bikes.

  • Having volunteer students identify and remove bikes from hazardous locations as well as prevent clutter by gathering discarded bikes and placing them in the proper location.

  • Addition of at least 2 new bike racks near each campus building in nondisruptive locations.

The replacement of the old bike racks as well as addition of new ones will let students to have more accessibility to their class buildings. This is important in helping new students feel connected to the school as well as offer a less clustered and messy situation with the limited space that the old bike racks had.

The freedom of having a space to park is something that everyone should be able to enjoy, and this freedom is very important to maintaining a healthy environment around the campus. If you would like to discuss this further please feel free to contact me through the following methods:
